John White, Wauconda, IL Mentor and Warehouse Generalist

This month in our FIDELITONE Life series, we’re excited to introduce you to John White, our Warehouse Generalist in Wauconda, IL. John has been with our company for 34 years. He is a top performer and is considered a mentor by many at our Wauconda facility. “I’ve been fortunate to work with some really good people which makes the job easier,” says John.

John always puts safety first but ensuring the job is done right and creating customer loyalty are close seconds.

We asked him some questions about his role at FIDELITONE and daily life:

Just for fun – If you could be any celebrity, who would you be?

I’m a big John Wayne fan. I like old school actors. As far as basketball players – Michael Jordan.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I work in the receiving department. I unload trucks and put stock away in the warehouse. I also do some picking.

What do you enjoy most about working at FIDELITONE?

The people I get to work with. Whatever their level is, once they get to know you, they make you feel like you’re not just a number. You want to do a good job for them.

How did you get your start in supply chain?

Through softball, I got my start at FIDELITONE. I was playing softball back in ‘84 and one of the guys on the team was the warehouse manager at the time. He asked me if I would be interested in coming to work for FIDELITONE.

What has changed during your time working in logistics?

The products have changed completely. You have to make changes to go along with the new products and go with the flow. We have to do what our clients want.

What are your interests/hobbies outside of work?

I have been bowling for 45 years. I love golf, fishing, and I enjoy cooking. I have a smoker and a Weber grill that I use during summer months. I like to smoke ribs, chicken, beef, fish, everything.

I’m getting ready to retire in the next couple of years and will spend more time on the golf course.

What sets FIDELITONE apart from the competition?

Upper management cares about employees. They care, they know you, they ask you how you’re doing. That makes people want to do a better job.

How do you work to create customer loyalty?

I take time to get the job done right the first time. As a forklift driver, you have to be aware of everything around you.

However, if I make a mistake (which we all occasionally do), I have the backing of my supervisor to help fix the mistake and make sure I don’t repeat it.

What would you recommend for someone who wants to start a career in supply chain?

FIDELITONE offers a lot of things. You can start off in the warehouse but you don’t have to stay there. You can work your way up through the ranks if you desire.
